01What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels — work the same way. They let a site recognise your browser between page loads and visits, so you don't have to sign in again on every click.
Givana uses very few of them, and only where they earn their place.
02Why we use them
We group everything we set into three honest buckets:
- Essential— keep you signed in, protect against forgery, and remember your light/dark theme. The product can't work without these, so they're always on.
- Preferences— remember small choices you've made, like a dismissed banner.
- Analytics — help us understand which screens are used so we can improve them. Always optional, and never used to track you across other sites.
03Cookies we set
A representative inventory — the exact list is shown in the cookie banner before anything optional is set.
| Name | Purpose | Retention | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| givana_session | Keeps you signed in to your account. | Session | Essential |
| givana_csrf | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. | Session | Essential |
| givana-theme | Remembers your light / dark / system theme choice. | 1 year | Essential |
| givana_prefs | Remembers dismissed tips and small UI choices. | 6 months | Preferences |
| _ga (example) | Aggregated, privacy-respecting usage analytics. | 13 months | Analytics |
04Third-party cookies
Our payment processor may set its own cookies on the checkout page to secure the transaction and prevent fraud. Those are governed by the processor's own policy. We don't sell your data and we don't run advertising cookies.
05Your choices
You're in control of everything that isn't essential:
- Accept or decline optional cookies in the banner shown on your first visit.
- Change your mind any time from Settings → Privacy in your dashboard.
- Block or clear cookies in your browser settings — note that disabling essential cookies will sign you out and break parts of the product.
Where your browser sends a recognised “Do Not Track” or global privacy signal, we treat it as a request to decline optional analytics cookies.
06Changes & contact
If our cookie use changes, we'll update the version and date above. For anything cookie- or privacy-related, see the Privacy Policy or write to us.
